The junebug flies low above the pool of water, almost hidden among the plants along the edge. Painted on the spot 24 years ago in the middle of the summer, the rough brushstrokes capture the textures of the rugged bark and rippling water. Humming with life, this painting evokes the busy and verdant pleasures that a summer day holds for the smallest of creatures.
June Bug is an original painting by Eileen Amberden, mother of four and survivor of a recent battle with breast cancer. Eileen paints what inspires her in her studio in Mesa, Arizona. Her work is signed by her initials, EMAA, which by happy coincidence is also the name of an African creativity spirit.
