About the Artist
Although Eileen has created art since the age of 4, and has completed dozens of gallery quality paintings, only now at the young age of 58 has she decided to start her professional career as an artist.
Breast Cancer
In March 2008, Eileen was diagnosed with breast cancer. In the following months she would complete a regimen of chemotherapy, a double mastectomy, and radiation treatments.
The good news is, Eileen is now cancer free. And if she learned anything, it is that life is too short to spend it answering phones, when your real passion is painting. Sometimes you hear people ask, "If you had a year to live, what would you spend it doing?" When you have lived through cancer, you come up with a pretty good answer to this question. In Eileen's case, the answer was painting.
As anyone with experience would know, supporting yourself as an artist can be a challenge when you are first starting out. When you buy one of Eileen's paintings or prints, you are helping to support a breast cancer survivor fulfill her dream. Also, you will be supporting breast cancer research and the millions of women afflicted with breast cancer, since 10% of the profits from each sale are donated to the National Breast Cancer Foundation.
Eileen's situation is not unique. There are many artists out there trying to make ends meet, and sadly many mothers and daughters with breast cancer. That is why EileenAmberden.com maintains a section on the site to help other artists in similar circumstances. If you are an artist who has or used to have breast cancer, please send us your information so we can add you to our directory. Also, any individual or art gallery who has made a commitment to supporting a breast cancer foundation is welcome, too.
If you would like to include a link to www.eileenamberden.com on your blog, website, or myspace account, it would be a blessing.
About Eileen Amberden's Art
You may have noticed, the topic of Eileen's art is not really related to breast cancer. Although it has played a role in her decision to pursue her love of art, she decided not to let it overpower her creative direction. Instead, she paints whatever inspires her. Currently that happens to be nature and wildlife, either as expressed in the many beautiful florals of the Summer series, or the comical Ostrich or Raccoon paintings. Her previous works include the Opossum as well.
It is already mentioned that Eileen has painted many other pieces over the course of her career. Most of these are currently in the collections of friends, family, and private collectors. If you own an Eileen Amberden original, we would love to photograph it for the website! In the next few months we hope to showcase photographs of all of her previous work.
If you are interested in Eileen's art, but have something specific in mind, she would love to hear from you! She is an experienced and skillful portrait artist, and is always excited to create a unique piece for the enthusiastic collector. Please click here to get in touch.
